Student beats the odds, participates in Undergraduate Commencement

Robert Aliano '11

Robert Aliano ’11 defied the odds and walked across the proscenium on the Mount Carmel Campus Quad to receive his diploma.

Aliano suffered brain trauma and punctured lungs when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver less than a mile from the campus in November 2008. The driver was found.

Doctors said he would never wake up.

Not only did he wake up, but he completed his coursework and earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing in the School of Business.

News of Aliano’s return to campus to receive his degree appeared on the Associated Press, WTNH-TV, WVIT-TV  and as far away as on WMTW-TV of Portland, Maine.
