Students donate enough food to fill 12 minivans to area charities

Tracy Diamond '11 helps organize a conference room full of non-perishable food items that university students donated this month.

Students donated four times more food this year than last as part of an initiative sponsored by the Offices of Community Service and Residential Life.

The amount of food donated so far could fill 12 minivans, and was donated to the Ronald McDonald House, AIDS Project New Haven and Master’s Manna.

In addition to providing food to the hungry at a time of the year when many pantries are empty, the donations support the university’s mission to reduce waste. This is the third year of the “Be Kind, Leave Your Food Behind” initiative.
