The Northeast Conference recognized the talents of two Quinnipiac athletes on Sept. 24 with player of the week honors.
Sophomore Danielle Allan, of Riverdale, N.J., was named the Northeast Conference Field Hockey Co-Player of the Week, and Senior Jill Kelley, of Simsbury, Conn., was named the Northeast Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week. Kelley was also named the College Sports Madness Player of the Week.
Last season, Allan was a two-time Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week in one of the historically great freshman seasons in Quinnipiac history. She had a pair of hat tricks and became the first freshman in program history to score in three straight games. Allan marked Maine up for a goal in a 5-3 loss before scoring against Patriot League favorite American in a 3-2 win.
Kelley recorded three saves in the 1-0 win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Sept. 21 and collected three more saves in the 1-0 shutout against intrastate rival Central Connecticut. For Kelley’s career in goal she has tallied 16 shutouts between the posts. With this weekend’s triumphs, Kelley picked up her 24th career win, and currently leads the NEC in goals against average (.51), save percentage (.867), and shutouts (5).
