Professor Rich Hanley: Success of Geico’s hump day commercial illustrates Americans’ unhappiness at work

hanleyAmericans celebrate the approaching weekend each week with Geico’s hump day commercial, Rich Hanley, associate professor and director of the graduate journalism program in the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University, told the San Francisco NBC affiliate.

“When you get to the middle of the week, the end is in sight,” Hanley is quoted as saying in the story that has been picked up by local NBC affiliates across America. “The proverbial hump has been passed. Americans celebrate this by sharing this video.”

Part of the reason the video continues to go viral each Wednesday is because most Americans are not happy at work and welcome any sign of the weekend, Hanley said.
