Bill Nye, who was among the first to congratulate Quinnipiac’s Undergraduate Class of 2010 at Commencement, will compete on this season’s “Dancing with the Stars.”

Bill Nye, who was the 2010 Quinnipiac University undergraduate commencement speaker, has been selected to compete in this season’s “Dancing with the Stars” on ABC.

Nye, who is best known for hosting the Emmy Award-winning PBS show, “Bill Nye the Science Guy,” challenged students not just to conserve resources but to invent new methods of attaining, storing and sharing energy. He received an honorary degree at the ceremony.

Fittingly, each of the graduates donned black gowns woven from plastic pellets made from recycled drink bottles. Each of our graduates have worn equally sustainable Commencement garb since.

The 17th season of “Dancing with the Stars” is scheduled to premiere at 8 p.m. ET on Monday, Sept. 16 on ABC.
