Professor Rich Hanley: Mark Zuckerberg needs to show Congress the NSA’s activities hold unintended consequences for Internet businesses

hanleyRich Hanley, associate professor and director of the graduate journalism program in the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University, was quoted in an E-Commerce Times article about Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s comments about the National Security Agency accessing digital conversations around the world.

Zuckerberg, who told TechCrunch Disrupt conference participants that”the government blew it,” is getting increasingly involved in various policy areas.

“Whether Mark Zuckerberg has the same influence as the chair of Exxon Mobil remains to be seen, but he understands that his business is threatened by government surveillance,” Hanley said. “He needs to aggressively show Congress that the NSA’s activities hold unintended consequences for Internet businesses now and moving forward.”
