Connecticut has scheduled an informational hearing to consider legislation that would allow business owners to organize companies using alternative business models that seek social change rather than focusing solely on boosting profit.

David Cadden, professor of entrepreneurship and strategy in the School of Business at Quinnipiac University, is available to comment.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Cadden compared the business model to investments that appeal to investors who want their money to support causes even if they forfeit higher profit. According to Cadden, opposition to benefit corporations is nearly non-existent.

“Outside some ideological obsession I can’t see where anyone would be adverse to them,” he said.

To speak to Cadden, call John Morgan, associate vice president for public relations, at 203-206-4449 (cell) or 203-582-5359 (office).
