Professor encourages FDA to revise and update nutrition labels

Professor Dana White

The Food and Drug Administration is considering revising and updating the nutrition labels on the back of food packages.

Dana White, clinical assistant professor of athletic training and sports medicine, who specializes in nutrition, in the School of Health Sciences at Quinnipiac University, is available to comment.

“An update to food labels would be a great thing,” said White. “I certainly agree that more consumers are paying attention to labels in recent years, but they are famously hard to understand. Without proper guidance it’s easy to get lost in all that information. A update for the U.S. dietary guidelines will take place in 2015 and this may be a good opportunity to make people aware of changes or at the very least, provide additional education about how to best tap into the information that is available on various forms of food packaging.”
