Alumna recalls being blown backward from last year’s Boston Marathon bombings, prepares to run this year

Screen Shot 2014-04-21 at 10.16.16 AMSabrina Dello Russo ’97 was featured in a recent CNN segment about surviving the Boston Marathon bombings one year ago.

She was standing with friends, cheering on other friends running the race, and was leaning on a mailbox for a good vantage point.

One of the bombs detonated just a few feet from her. She was blown backward and suffered a traumatic brain injury. Her friend, Roseann Sdoia, lost part of her leg in the blast.

This year, Dello Russo is running the marathon for Sdoia. The money raised by the Running for Ro team will go toward Sdoia’s prosthetic. Dello Russo is a leasing project manager for corporate real estate at Liberty Mutual Insurance in Boston.
