QUINN’teresting to you (we hope)… 5th Annual Media MashUP
April 13, 2016 — Scores of students swarmed Rocky Top Student Center for the 5th Annual Media MashUP, a day-long collection of panels, presentations and pressing-the-flesh opportunities (aka: networking). Two dozen professionals from New York City and across the northeast came to discuss industry trends and share best practices across the School’s fields of study, many of them QU alumni. Professional participants raved about the energy the QU students brought to the day and were happy to take business cards from those prepared to pursue “QUINN’ternship” and job opportunities. Students report being charged up by hearing about the possibilities presented by people working in the digital design, strategic communication, media and television fields.
Modeling the official MashUP t-shirt is program assistant Jessica Loeser, QU master’s ’17 (front) and friend (back). A first this year: t-shirt SPONSORS! FYI, the t-shirt and event logo is courtesy the efforts of Tom Hayes (senior; interactive digital design).
Jaime Laufer, Senior Recruting Manager with The McIntryre Group, reviews student work in a morning double-session at MashUP. We thank The McIntyre Group for working with our students and being one of the t-shirt sponsors!
“The Best Online You” was a popular session that helped start off MashUP morning quickly and with great energy. Thank you to Phill Simon and Andrea Obston for their words of wisdom and direction.
ESPN is in the house!… and a very popular house it (that session) was!
Thank you Lizzie Edwards (QU ’13/FVI), Jill Bouffard (QU ’01/journalism), Brian Costello and Mark Medaglia (QU ’09/COM) for instructing and inspiring our sports enthusiasts.
New this year: an etiquette lunch, hosted by QU Assistant Vice President for Public Affairs Karla Natalie.
These four women came to represent the entire challenge of “Getting it Done on TV.” Thank you to WFSB/Hartford reporter Susan Raff, WPRI/Providence anchor Danielle North, WPRI/Providence director Mandy White, and ABC World News Tonight producer Katie Den Daas.
MashUP ends with a 2-hour networking meet-and-greet that featured a dozen businesses and opportunities that attracted more than 100 students.
Among those pressing-the-flesh with interested students, ONE World Sports, which was also one of our t-shirt sponsors. Thanks OWS!
