As summer vacations wind down, so too do the summer efforts of QU faculty who have an unusual relationship with the months of June, July and August. Many spend the summer conducting research, writing, attending conferences and preparing to be challenging and up-to-date in the classroom come fall semester.

We continue “A Professor’s “Vacation”” with Dr. Laura Willis who did some of all of that! She tells us about her summer vacation work from a dry spot on a rainy day near her home in downtown New Haven.

Dr. Willis is seen here with QU colleagues Dr. Kearston Wesner, Dr. Hilary Fussell Sisco and Dr. Katie Place all at the national convention of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication the week of August 1st in Minneapolis.  Willis won a top teaching paper award in the Public Relations Division and was part of a presentation panel alongside Sisco and Place.

Dr. Willis’ summer work is being supported by funds made available to faculty from the University and Dean Lee Kamlet’s office through the QU School of Communications Committee on Scholarship and Creative Works. These grants are competitively awarded to cover materials, equipment, travel and other expenses associated with this “vacation” work.
