A pair of QU School of Communications students has been awarded $2,500 scholarships from Sikorsky Aircraft, a world leader in military and commercial rotary-wing aircraft headquartered in Stratford. Junior journalism major Ayah Galal and sophomore Film, Television and Media Arts major Kristen Caron were chosen by an ad hoc faculty committee, representatives from the school’s Dean’s office and a pair of school alumnae for the scholarship award in a competitive process based on academic achievement and engagement as well as on an essay describing their vision of the future of communications.
Ayah interned this past summer with Talk Media News, reporting from the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. She is a Dean’s List student, QU Admissions Student Ambassador and web director for Q30 Television.
Also a Dean’s List student, Kristen is team videographer for the QU women’s soccer team and worked this past summer for MTV’s “Catfish: The TV Show” as a production assistant. She also serves as secretary of the Quinnipiac Film Society.
Sikorsky Aircraft, a Lockheed Martin Company, has had a steady relationship with the School of Communications providing internships and opportunities to students and alumni. The $2,500 scholarships to Ayah and Kristen are the latest example of that relationship.
