QUINN’teresting to you (we hope)… Media MashUP

Journalism sophomore Paige Meyer chats up WTNH-News8 anchor Scott McDonnell after the television panel that covered a range of opportunities “in” television.

The School of Communications held its 6th Annual Media MashUP on Thursday, April 6th. Close to 150 students made their way up to the Rocky Top Student Center in torrential spring rain to take advantage of the twelve MashUP program pieces. It didn’t matter if graphics were your game or television your goal, there were discussions and presentations across the communications spectrum all day long. New this year, professional Bryte Photography headshots for that uber-catching LinkedIn profile and Aced-My-Interview professionals Skyping students through the pressure of interviewing for jobs. Also a MashUP addition this year, a chat session with members of the School’s Alumni Advisory Board who held their semi-annual meeting at day’s end. Wrapping up the Media MashUP program was the networking career fair with three waves of would-be QUINN’terns and soon-to-be Bobcat graduates rushing in to meet and greet representatives from more than a dozen businesses and organizations. Media MashUP ’17 — exciting, powerful and fun!

Prepping your brand and preparing your job search were the topics addressed by Jaime Laufer (M.S., QU ’12), Director of People Operations at Digital Surgeons, a digital-first marketing agency in New Haven.

ESPN is always a popular stop in the networking session and we thank Jill Ann Bouffard (QU ’01),
Manager of Learning and Organizational Development, for leading that media team up to York Hill.

Midday featured an etiquette lunch for students prepping for that nerve-wracking opportunity, thanks to Karla Natale, QU Assistant V.P. for Public Affairs.

Journalism graduate student Shirra Edwards was raffle winner #3, nabbing a new iPad mini to stay connected and in-the-know.
